STEAM Reads: I Love You, Michael Collins Book Discussion In-Person
For Ages 8-12
The first 30 registrants will receive a free copy of the book. Register starting Monday, October 6. It's 1969 and the country is gearing up to put a man on the moon. Ten-year-old Mamie and her classmates are assigned to write letters to the astronauts. Her classmates all choose Neil Armstrong or Buzz Aldrin. Only Mamie writes to Michael Collins who won't get to walk on the moon, because he must stay with the ship. After school ends Mamie continues writing to Michael Collins. As the date of the Apollo 11 launch approaches the country is on the edge of their seat.
After discussing the book participants will get a chance to write and send their own postcards to space.
